We’ve been working with Bonnier Magazines for several years now. One of the larger projects is the migration of websites, from Episerver to WordPress.
When we started the import project, the majority of Bonnier Magazine’s online publications – such as Allt om Mat (food), Teknikens Värld (cars), Damernas Värld (women’s lifestyle), and more – were spread over several Episerver installs and versions. We created a roadmap for exporting the data to a new editorial platform built on WordPress, designed and developed by us. The export files are generated by third parties across the world, and then verified by us and Bonniers Magazine before the migration to WordPress. This process takes a lot of back and forth due to the complexity of the import data, and verifying the data for missing or broken links is an important step, before the live import and launch. The same goes for accompanying blog networks and similar.
So far, a handful of the online magazines has been moved, with more planned. At the same time, the editorial platform is also used to launch new publications. We’ve built the platform so that it’s easy for Bonnier Magazine to roll out new sites on their own. It includes APIs for ad networks, both internal and external, as well as customisable templates.
The import project’s main goal is to move existing magazine sites from Episerver, to the WordPress editorial platform, which will allow for a higher development pace of the Bonnier Magazine network in the future. Once the sites has been moved, we look forward to developing a new design language for implementation across the network.
One of the sites already moved is Allt om Mat, a major Swedish food site. This import includes tens of thousands of recipe data, that we converted to WordPress. We created custom functions and interfaces for the editors to manage the recipe data. Another site that needed custom functionality was Teknikens Värld, with its car pages. All additional functionality is modular, so that it can be reused in the future.
We are looking to complete all editorial imports by the end of 2015. When the migration is completed, Bonnier Magazines will have a unified platform that allows a rapid development cycle, to iterate on the editorial platform. Bonnier Magazines are at the forefront of online publications, and our partnership with them helps them to continue to be so.
